In many of the sci-fi films I grew up on, films such as Aliens, Robocop and Terminator have produced truly iconic weapons that help add the allure of the films they appear in. Neill Blomkamp's District 9 just so happens to be one of those films.

Fortunately for us, Weta Workshop has announced that they will be releasing 2 screen-accurate prop replicas of the alien rifles featured in the hit sci-fi film, District 9. The two rifles are the 'Arc Generator' and the 'Gas Projector', each with their own signature markings and details.

I stumbled across this amazing video showing a process that was used to discover what a giant subterranean ant structure looks like underground. Don't fear for the ants living in the abode, it had been abandoned by the main colony and was used to provided a surreal glimpse at the extent of construction done by the ants.

Syfy released this teaser montage from Caprica at the end of the Pilot episode to showcase what's to come season 1. Having been very impressed with the first episode aired, this teaser really has me looking forward to what could become another fine Syfy production.

SEGA has released a new action-packed trailer for their upcoming title, Aliens vs. Predator: Heritage; due to be released on Xbox 360 and PS3 in February 2010.

Hot Toys continues to produce museum-worthy 1/6 scale figures from an increasingly expanding list of films. Sculpted and painted by Hot Toys artists JC. Hong and Kojun, their latest figure captures the likeness of Brad Pitt portraying Lt. Aldo Raine from Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds.

"Skynet Symphonic" is an unbelievably cool project put together by Pogo, an "emerging electronic music artist" from Australia. This mad man took an arsenal of audio samples from Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and composed an amazing electronic track using nothing but these sound bytes. He describes it best on his YouTube profile. "Each section is composed entirely of sounds from a major scene in the film. For example, the Terminator pounding on the fire escape door is used as a kick drum. Bones breaking play the role of a snare. Electrical disturbance acts as a crash cymbal." If Skynet has robot ears, this is what's pumping through his headphones.

Sideshow Collectibles is now offering a fantastic-looking Arnold Schwarzenegger figure sculpted to resemble his T-800 character in the blockbuster film Terminator 2. The figure was sculpted by the very talented folks at Hot Toys and includes a few recognizable items including weapons and the iconic "rose box" shotgun featured in the motion picture.

This is definitely one of the riskier campaigns that I've seen launched by a fast food company in recent years. Burger King U.K. recently unveiled its 'Singing in the Shower' campaign which allows viewers to view a live webcam feed of a bikini-clad lady singing in the shower. Clearly targeted towards male customers, the campaign allows viewers to submit entries explaining why they should deserve a date with the 20 year old lady.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Sideshow Collectibles is planning to release a collection of classic TMNT statues. I say "classic" TMNT because Sideshow sculpted and painted the comiquettes to reflect the characters as they were seen in the original black and white Mirage Studios comic book series created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in 1984. For many fans of the series, this is the most accurate depiction of how the "heroes in a half shell" are supposed to be depicted, complete with bloodied weapons and uniform-colored bandanas (all red).

Sideshow Collectibles presents yet another life-size replica from the film Terminator Salvation; the T-700 model Terminator. The design originally planned for the T-700 was fleshed out more on paper in pre-production instead of what we actually wound up seeing on screen which looked very similar to the T-800 model from the original films, just seen with a darker, grittier paint application.

While digging through some old Comic Scene magazines, I came across this great photo of Brigitte Nielsen taken in the late 1980s. It seems that somehow, Bridgitte was approached by Marvel Comics and was asked to pose for a series of photographs while dressed as She-Hulk. The TAC Fighter, the primary tactical bomber of the Federation Fleet, is one of the more effective weapons against the arachnid threat in the 1997 film, Starship Troopers. Seen only too briefly on screen, Yamato USA has been at work producing a licensed quality replica of the sleek sci-fi fighter which is now available in the US courtesy of Sideshow Collectibles.

While spending most of the past weekend sick in bed, I took in my daily dose of fluids, vitamins and viewings of various DVDs I have here at the house. My usual comedic selections weren't doing it for me and instead I began to dabble in the science fiction films I have in my collection. As one sci-fi viewing rolled into the next, I tossed the notion around in my head and decided it would be fun to stack up some of the coolest weapons that sci-fi films have produced to help pass my time.

Capcom has unveiled detailed plans regarding the release of future downloadable content for Resident Evil 5 AE. The online content idea formed when Capcom launched a poll which asked Resident Evil fan how they would like to receive their copy of Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition (i.e., via download or physical disk). The fans decided that downloadable content was the way to go and Capcom has listened.

The Prop Store of London, "one of the world's leading vendors of movie props and costumes", has launched several eBay listings for props and memorabilia from the scifi film, Moon. Not surprisingly, many people may be unaware of the film due to its limited release this past summer, but the film has received rave reviews regarding both for the performance of Sam Rockwell (the sole actor on screen for the entire film) as well as the film's production.

Any true anime fan should be able to recognize this iconic vehicle from both the Manga series and scifi film, Akira. This super-cool custom bike is the preferred mode of transportation for Shotaro Kaneda, leader of The Capsule gang, a group of bikers who cruise the streets of Neo Tokyo in the year 2019.

For what could be one of the most anticipated video game of the year, Call of Duty: Modern Combat 2 continues to release trailers and footage in preparation for the November 10 release date. The latest trailer uses the Eminem track, "Till I Collapse", featuring Nate Dogg and creates an entertaining mix which is sure to further excite Call of Duty fans.

Here's a very impressive CGI short I came across online this week. This personal project is a short car reel created by a digital artist by the name of Pantural from Azerbaijan. He created the short piece using several programs such as 3DS Max, Mudbox, After Effects, Photoshop and Soundforge. The whole animation supposedly took a total of 110 days rendering time!

Going once, going twice. As the Terminator Salvation film nears its release on DVD and Blu-ray, the rights to the Terminator film franchise are also going up for sale to the highest bidder this month. The sale stems from financial difficulties facing the production company which currently holds the rights, Halcyon. The difficulties arose when the Santa Barbara-based hedge fund that lent Halcyon the money to buy the rights fell through.

Sideshow Collectibles is giving Darth Talon, an often overlooked Sith Lord, her very own Premium Format statue. The Darth Talon character comes from the pages of the Star Wars: Legacy comic book series, introduced by Dark Horse Comics in 2006. The successful comic book series expanded on the Star Wars universe, introducing many new colorful characters in the process, including Darth Talon.

Sideshow Collectibles have added yet another life-size Star Wars bust to their already extensive collection. Fans can now enjoy the company of the Gamorrean Guard in their living room if they so desire. This beautifully sculpted bust of the cult-favorite Gamorrean Guard stands 17" tall and weighs a whopping 20 lbs.

Casey Pugh, the mastermind behind Star Wars: Uncut, has gone and spearheaded one of the greatest Star Wars tributes I've seen, using fan-submitted videos to help re-tell the story of Star Wars: A New Hope. Casey first broke up Episode IV into 473 15-second segments. These 15-second scene sections were then organized and listed online for users to choose which scene they wanted to work with. Now here's the fun part, the fan who is assigned a 15 second segment can recreate the scene in any medium they choose, so long as they submit a completed re-creation of the scene.
