Metalocalypse Video Game In the Works by Konami
July 20 2009 | video game | television

One of the greatest animated series I've stumbled upon in the last 10 years is the hilariously smart show, Home Movies. Home Movies was the creative brainchild of Brendan Small who, in addition to writing and voicing characters on the show, also composed and performed all the music for the series. When Home Movies went off the air, I always hoped he would return with a new series and sure enough, in 2007, Metalocalypse aired on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. Focusing on the fictional death metal band Dethklok and their hilariously disturbed band members, Brendan Small again created a platform for both his musical talents as well as creative writings. |

Futurama May Return with a New Cast on Board
July 17 2009 | television

Not too long ago, I wrote a post on how the hit animated show Futurama had been raised from the dead and that fans could look now forward to seeing new material hit their televisions in the near future. I'm happy to say that this is still the case. But what about hearing new material from the hit cartoon? That's another question entirely as it appears 20th Century Fox are currently auditioning new actors to do the voiceovers for ALL the major characters on the show.

'MetalSouls' Transform Raw Metal into Fine Collectibles
July 10 2008 | pop | design
Metalsouls is a small workshop hellbent on bringing you truly remarkable sculpts welded from the ground up using scrap metal from old cars and motorcycles. Founded in 2000, this talented team works to bring you the "action figure of the day" in a medium I've seen few make look as beautiful as this team does. |
|
They're based out of San Francisco but have no brick & mortar shop (sorry folks), but do have a nice showcase of their work on their website including videos works in progress. Ranging from 4" to 27" in height, Metalsouls sculpt a variety of figures including miscellaneous professions, vehicles, sci-fi icons (amazing sculpts), sports figures, insects and more.

New District 9 Poster + Trailer Released
July 8 2009 | film
A new trailer for District 9 will be attached to the motion picture Bruno in hopes of further spreading what already appears to be a very well-executed viral marketing campaign. A new poster has also hit the web, expanding on many of the visual easter eggs many have already seen via posters and signs around comic book conventions, public fixtures, even radio stations across the nation. One such Public Service Announcement can be viewed here and here (you can also continue reading below to view). So far, the film is shaping up to be a much more grounded and realistic take on what would happen if extraterrestrials made contact, landed, and took up low rent housing on Earth. |

FURNIGRAPHMUMBLETRONIC Retro Watch for Charity
June 24 2009 | tech | pop

Retro-style clockmaker Furni and the skateboarding/street culture blog Clubmumble have joined forces to create a limited, unisex watch to help out the charity organization, Contributor. The charity was launched with the goal to help distribute skateboards to underprivileged youths in Canada. The snow-white watch is a nice ode to the classic digital wristwatch many of us rocked in the '80s and features either a black or grey faceplate with shiny, gold buttons to control the standard wristwatch features (alarm, stopwatch, etc.) Etched on the backside of each watch is "work smarter, not harder" while on the front, the wearer is humorously cautioned that the watch is "somewhat water resistant."
Watches are on sale now @ Furni for only $24.

Utilizing one of the most engaging displays I've ever seen, WHITEvoid, a design studio focusing on creating visuals from raw data, has developed a state of the art system designed to help teach the intricacies of both local and international flights to visitors of the Lufthansa Brand Academy Frankfurt-Seeheim. This monster simulation is spread across 14 meters of screen which wrap 180 degrees around the individual at the center of the room. It's no big secret that our current president has a few interests that previous commander-in-chiefs haven't shared. Plus, his choice of laptop and customization seals the deal for me; the man's a nerd at heart and the people love it. Click 'Continue Reading' below to view more. |
