'Kaguya' Satellite Films Surface of the Moon in HD
June 12 2009 | tech
Launched in September of 2007, the SELENE (nickname 'Kaguya') orbiter had been orbiting the moon for almost 2 years, collecting data and footage of the lunar surface as part of its space exploration mission. This was in fact one of the most involved explorations of our moon since the Apollo space program in the US. The SELENE spacecraft, named after the Titan goddess of the moon from Greek mythology, brought along a plethora of tools to help analyze and study the surface of the moon as it passed over it. Among it's range of tools, the Japanese installed 2 HDTV cameras aboard SELENE in hopes of capturing the surface in great detail. The videos below are a sample of what was captured by 'Kaguya' before it made its planned crash-landing into the surface of the moon on June 11. Futurama in Our Future? The Universe is Saved
June 9 2009 | television

So far, it's been a lukewarm year for me in regards to what's on TV. The few shows I did enjoy on the box this year were cancelled. Shows such as 'My Name is Earl' and 'Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (see earlier post). Then I discovered this little piece of good news. Futurama is being brought back from the dead as Comedy Central has apparently ordered 13 brand new episodes and has officially announced the show will begin production again shortly!

Star Trek Film Concept Art by James Clyne
June 4 2009 | design | film
Digital Conceptual artist James Clyne had a significant hand in the making of the visual asthetic of the newly released 'Star Trek' film and many of his images are now available on his portfolio site. He's worked on several huge sci-fi films I'm sure you've seen already. Some that come to mind are Transformers, War of the Worlds, A.I., X-Men 3 and more. One of the finer aspects that the current film has going for it on the big screen are the clean, glossy visuals that JJ Abrams used in the final cut. These illustrations are a great reference as to how it all began.
