TMNT 25th Anniversary 'Raphael' Comiquette

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Sideshow Collectibles is planning to release a collection of classic TMNT statues. |
|
I say "classic" TMNT because Sideshow sculpted and painted the comiquettes to reflect the characters as they were seen in the original black and white Mirage Studios comic book series created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in 1984. Unlike the campy (yet enjoyable) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle animated series of my youth, the original comic book had a much darker, grittier and serious tone. For many fans of the series, this is the most accurate depiction of how the "heroes in a half shell" are supposed to be depicted, complete with bloodied weapons and uniform-colored bandanas (all red). Raphael is the second character of the TMNT crew to be getting the comiquette treatment. You can check out the first statue of the series, Donatello, here. The statue measures 13" (H) by 14" (W) by 12" (D) and is expected to begin shipping during the second quarter of 2010.
