The Terminator Franchise is Up on the Auction Block
November 2 2009 | terminator | film

Going once, going twice. As the Terminator Salvation film nears its release on DVD and Blu-ray, the rights to the Terminator film franchise are also going up for sale to the highest bidder this month. The sale stems from financial difficulties facing the production company which currently holds the rights, Halcyon. The difficulties arose when the Santa Barbara-based hedge fund that lent Halcyon the money to buy the rights fell through. The Terminator franchise would be a huge acquisition to whoever claims it. The rights being auctioned off will give the buyer the ability to produce new films, television shows and more, further expanding the Terminator franchise. However, the rights being sold do not cover the previous films that have already been released, only future titles. The auction has attracted a lot of potential bidders as the Terminator series is one of the few blockbuster film franchises that is not controlled by a big Hollywood studio. Some studios interested in the auction include Summit Entertainment and Sony.Below is a brief showcase of films and shows from the Terminator series.
